The latest long term support (LTS) release 10.04 from Ubuntu has been release for a period of time. However, Ubuntu 10.04 come with PHP 5.3 which is the latest version of PHP. However, if running Drupal 6 on PHP 5.3 is not ready yet since a list of contributed modules and some Drupal 6 core are not compatibility with it.
